Up until now, my travels had always followed a circular pattern, meaning that I had a central base from which every journey began and to which every journey returned. However, my trip to Taiwan marked a departure from this routine. Although I left some unfinished business in Hong Kong, I didn’t plan to return immediately, but I also didn’t rule out the possibility.
I obtained a one-month stay permit for Taiwan and was required to have a return ticket. So, I booked a flight back to Hong Kong for 28 days after my arrival.
My time in Asia granted me an unprecedented level of independence. I was no longer constrained by schedules or itineraries; I could simply head to the airport, board a plane, and vanish into the unknown. This newfound freedom was facilitated by financial autonomy, emotional detachment, and the practical opportunities afforded by my location.
